Holistic Nursing Journal (HNJ)
Commitment to Academic Integrity
The Holistic Nursing Journal (HNJ) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical publishing practices. The journal promotes responsible scientific research and strictly prohibits plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct.
Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening using recognized similarity detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate before entering the peer review process.
The editorial office carefully evaluates similarity reports to determine the nature, extent, and source of overlapping text.
Types of Plagiarism Evaluated
The journal screens manuscripts for the following forms of plagiarism:
Direct Plagiarism
Copying text, figures, tables, or ideas directly from another source without appropriate citation or permission.
Improper Paraphrasing
Rewriting published material without proper acknowledgment of the original source.
Self-Plagiarism
Reusing substantial portions of previously published work by the same author(s) without appropriate citation or disclosure.
Duplicate Submission or Publication
Submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals or republishing previously published work without proper authorization.
Unattributed Content
Presenting data, interpretations, or ideas from other sources as original work without appropriate referencing.
Similarity Assessment
Similarity reports are assessed carefully by the editorial office and editors, considering:
- The percentage of similarity
- The source of overlapping material
- Proper citation and referencing
- Common scientific terminology and standard methodology descriptions
A low similarity score does not automatically guarantee originality, and a high similarity score does not necessarily indicate plagiarism. Editorial decisions are based on professional academic evaluation.
Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding 20% may be returned to authors for revision or rejected at the discretion of the editorial office.
Editorial Actions in Cases of Plagiarism
If plagiarism or publication misconduct is suspected, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:
- Request clarification or revision from the authors
- Reject the manuscript
· Suspending the review or publication process
- Notify the authors’ affiliated institutions when necessary
- Retract a published article in accordance with COPE guidelines
Post-Publication Actions
If plagiarism or serious ethical misconduct is identified after publication, the journal reserves the right to:
- Publish corrections or retractions
- Remove affected content when appropriate
- Notify indexing services and relevant institutions
Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for:
- Ensuring the originality of submitted work
- Properly citing all sources
- Obtaining permissions when required
- Disclosing any prior publication or related submissions
- Adhering to ethical research and publication standards
Reviewer and Editor Responsibilities
Reviewers and editors are expected to report any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, manipulated images, or unethical conduct identified during the review or editorial process.
Ethical Standards
The Holistic Nursing Journal (HNJ) follows international publication ethics standards and the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling plagiarism and publication misconduct cases.
